David Rugendyke started the Ethereum 2.0 staking pool Rocket Pool in 2016. The goal of the protocol is to make it easier for people to start staking on ETH 2.0, which currently requires a minimum of 32 ETH, some technical know-how, and a computer that meets certain requirements. Without a way to get around these problems, the network’s decentralization and security would be at risk. This is where Rocket Pool comes in. It lets users bet on a network of node operators without having to trust them and keep control of their money.
Rocket Pool was made to work for all kinds of stakers, to let anyone stake ETH to a network of decentralized node operators who have full independence and are backed by RPL token collateral. This protocol ensures the network is not dependent on any one party, which is how it has improved at every process step. Rocket Pool is a great example of what Ethereum and DeFi are all about. Its non-custodial, trustless nature lets true self-sovereignty grow.
One of the biggest problems with staking on ETH 2.0 is that running a node requires a lot of money and technical know-how. Rocket Pool solves this problem by letting people with as little as 0.01 ETH keep control of their funds and bet on any node operator they want. Node operators on the protocol confirm or attest to transactions on Ethereum 2.0. To do this on Rocket Pool, they need to have 16 ETH. All potential node operators are given equal opportunity to amass delegation from users.
When users stake towards a node operator, they get rETH, a liquid ERC-20 token representing one staked ETH and paying out. Users can do whatever they want with their rETH if ETH assets are staked toward Rocket Pool node operators. This includes interacting with other DeFi protocols. But users will have to wait until phase 2 of Ethereum 2.0’s release before using it.
Rocket Pool offers an alternative to many other staking-as-a-service options, often centralized and controlled by a single person. This makes it a good choice for people who want to be independent and in charge of their own money. With Rocket Pool, users can bet as little as 0.01 ETH on ETH 2.0, keep control of their funds, and bet on any node operator they want. This makes staking on ETH 2.0 easier and less centralized, ultimately making the network safer and less centralized.
