Ether.fi is a decentralized, non-custodial liquid staking and restaking protocol built on top of Ethereum. Its governance and utility token, ETHFI, currently trades with a market capitalization of approximately $753,740,277, placing it around rank #93 among all cryptocurrencies tracked on CryptoTeka, with a price near $0.7805 and 24-hour trading volume of roughly $113,233,365. The protocol allows users to deposit ETH and receive a liquid receipt token, eETH, that keeps earning staking rewards while remaining freely usable across decentralized finance.
Running a solo Ethereum validator requires locking up 32 ETH and operating dedicated hardware, which puts native staking out of reach for most holders. Traditional liquid staking tokens solved the capital-lock problem, but many early designs concentrated validator operations and governance in a small, semi-custodial set of hands. Ether.fi was built to address both the accessibility gap and the centralization concern: it lets holders of any amount of ETH stake without running their own infrastructure, while trying to preserve a non-custodial relationship between the depositor and their underlying keys and rewards. On top of ordinary staking, the protocol also lets users opt into “restaking,” directing their staked ETH’s economic security toward securing additional middleware and applications for extra yield, addressing the broader industry need for capital-efficient security in a growing web of Ethereum-adjacent networks.
Ether.fi emerged in the wave of liquid restaking protocols that launched around the 2023 period, positioning itself as a non-custodial alternative to incumbent liquid staking providers. The project is led by CEO and co-founder Mike Silagadze, an entrepreneur with a background in technology ventures prior to entering the Ethereum staking sector, alongside a core team of blockchain engineers who built the protocol’s smart contracts and validator infrastructure. Ether.fi launched its mainnet in early 2024 after an initial period of testing and early-access deposits, and the protocol quickly attracted a large base of stakers looking for a more decentralized way to earn yield on their Ethereum. The team raised funding from well-known crypto venture investors to support development, audits, and ecosystem growth, and it later introduced the ETHFI token to hand governance over to the community. The token generation event and airdrop rewarded early depositors and active participants, turning many stakers into long-term stakeholders in the protocol’s direction.
When a user deposits ETH into Ether.fi, the protocol issues eETH, a liquid token that represents the deposit and accrues staking rewards automatically. Users can also wrap eETH into weETH, a non-rebasing version whose value grows against ETH over time, which makes it easier to integrate with lending markets, decentralized exchanges, and other DeFi protocols. The key design choice is that stakers keep control of their validator withdrawal credentials, while node operators run the validator infrastructure. This split is meant to reduce single points of failure and keep users closer to the underlying assets than in fully custodial staking models.
Deposited ETH is used to spin up validators on the Ethereum network, which earn consensus and execution rewards. Those rewards flow back to eETH holders, so the balance reflects staking yield without any manual claiming. Because eETH stays liquid, holders can sell it, lend it, or use it as collateral while their original ETH keeps working in the background.
Ether.fi is one of the largest participants in the restaking economy that grew around EigenLayer. Through this integration, staked ETH can be pledged to secure additional services, such as data availability layers, oracles, and other middleware, in exchange for extra rewards on top of base staking yield. This layered approach increases capital efficiency, but it also adds risk, since restaked assets can be penalized if a secured service misbehaves. Users who want a simpler experience can stay with plain liquid staking and skip restaking entirely.
ETHFI is the governance and utility token of the protocol. Holders can vote on proposals that shape the platform, including fee parameters, supported integrations, operator selection, and treasury spending. Staking ETHFI can also unlock additional benefits within the ecosystem, and a portion of protocol revenue has been directed toward buybacks and community incentives at various points. The token is available on major exchanges, and you can follow its live price, market cap, and trading volume on the Ether.fi page on CryptoTeka.
Ether.fi has expanded past pure staking into consumer finance. Its Cash product and crypto-linked card let users spend against their onchain balances while their assets continue earning yield, bridging everyday payments with decentralized finance. This push toward real-world usage separates the project from many competitors that focus only on yield, and it gives ETHFI a wider set of use cases tied to actual user activity.
Like every staking and restaking protocol, Ether.fi carries several risks. Smart contract bugs, slashing events, validator operator failures, and depegging of eETH or weETH from ETH during market stress are all possible. Restaking layers add complexity, and returns from external services are not guaranteed. Regulatory attention on staking products is another factor that could affect the sector. As with any crypto asset, ETHFI is volatile, and readers should do their own research and never invest more than they can afford to lose.
Ether.fi remains one of the leading names in liquid staking and restaking thanks to its non-custodial design, deep integrations across DeFi, and a growing product suite that reaches beyond yield farming. Its long-term success will depend on continued growth in Ethereum staking, the maturity of the restaking market, and how well the team executes on payments and new financial products.
