The DFINITY basis is a nonprofit company that develops the Internet Computer, a public blockchain network designed to host smart contracts. ICP (∞) is the native cryptocurrency of the platform.

DFINITY was founded by Dominic Williams in October 2016 and registered as a nonprofit company in Zug (Switzerland).

Dominic Williams is the Founder, President, and leader Scientist of the DFINITY foundation and Internet Computer venture. He hails from the United Kingdom but moved to Palo Alto, California, in 2012 and continues to travel between numerous operations DFINITY keeps around the world.

Williams has a history as a technology entrepreneur, distributed systems engineer, and theoretician. His ultimate leading venture was an MMO game that grew to millions of customers, which ran on a unique horizontally scalable game server technology he created. He has prominent himself through contributions to allotted computing and crypto concepts. With works such as Threshold Relay, Probabilistic Slot Consensus, Validation Towers and Trees, Puzzle Towers, The 3 E’s of Sybil Resistance, and the core structure of the internet computer and the framework it affords for hosted software.
