Charles Hoskinson

Charles Hoskinson is an American software program developer and entrepreneur who is the creator of the Cardano blockchain platform and co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain platform. Hoskinson was born in Hawaii. He attended the Metropolitan state university of Denver and the University of Colorado Boulder to study analytic number theory but left before finishing his Ph.D. Hoskinson has not produced proof of having completed any university degree.

In 2013, Hoskinson ended the consulting job to start a project known as the Bitcoin education project. According to Hoskinson, the confined supply makes Bitcoin like a digital shape of gold. Cardano logo, a cryptocurrency developed by Hoskinson’s agency, IOHK. Hoskinson joined the Ethereum founding team as one of 8 founders with Vitalik Buterin in the past due 2013. For a short time, Hoskinson held the position of CEO at Ethereum. In 2014 after a dispute over whether the mission must be commercial (Hoskinson’s view) or a nonprofit (Buterin’s view), Buterin removed Hoskinson from Ethereum.

In late 2014, Hoskinson and Ethereum colleague Jeremy Wood formed IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong) – an engineering and research business enterprise that builds cryptocurrencies and blockchains. IOHK’s key venture is Cardano, a public blockchain and smart contract platform that hosts the ADA cryptocurrency. Hoskinson no longer pursued venture capital for Cardano, citing that it runs counter to the blockchain’s standards. Hoskinson has also stated that project capital involvement might lead to an oversized control of a mission.

Forbes has estimated Hoskinson’s wealth as $500m – $600m.

In 2020, Hoskinson spoke at the world economic forum in Davos, where he stated that blockchain eventually causes social change.
