Avery is the CTO and Co-founder of Aptos, the secure and scalable layer one blockchain. Avery spent over a decade leading teams at Meta, most recently as the Tech Lead of the crypto platform, which covered projects across general blockchain development and ecosystems, wallet infrastructure, strategy, and most notably, the Diem blockchain.
Before that, Avery was the tech lead of all of Meta’s batch processing teams, including Spark, Graph processing (Apache Giraph), Facebook Hive/Hadoop (Corona), distributed scheduling, and the unified programming model for pipelines. These technologies power analytics for all of Meta’s products and scale to hundreds of thousands of machines.
Avery was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, and studied computer engineering at Northwestern University. He also received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, specializing in supercomputing, parallel computing frameworks, and high-performance file systems.
Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching created Aptos to fulfill the vision of bringing fair access to decentralization to all through a secure, upgradeable, and scalable blockchain network.
The Aptos team comprises a highly-accomplished team of engineers, researchers, strategists, designers, and builders committed to delivering universal and equitable access to decentralization capable of scaling for billions of people.
Much of the Aptos team is credited with developing the technical innovations that power the Aptos blockchain—including the original creators of the Move language, Move Prover, the BlockSTM parallel execution engine, and Narwhal and Bullshark consensus mechanisms.
