Ari Meilich

Decentraland was created via Argentinians Ari Meilich and Esteban Ordano and launched in 2015. When it was released in 2017, parcels of virtual land sold for approximately $20, and mana tokens sold for $0.02. The game’s first map, Genesis City, comprised 90,601 parcels of land. It reached $26 million in its initial coin offering (ICO) in 2017.

The development started in 2015 with a second grid running in web browsers. In 2017, models and textures for the platform were saved on the blockchain. Then the project has made steps to integrate the Ethereum blockchain to permit decentralized programs created by the customers.

The government of Barbados introduced plans to open a legitimate diplomatic embassy in Decentraland, a plot of land for a reported value of $5,000 to $50,000, which is planned to be funded via a supply Decentraland.

In December 2021, the platform reached 500,000 monthly active customers.

Meilich can be like Mark Zuckerberg and owned Decentraland. Instead, he took a bold and revolutionary approach. The ownership was more comparable to a Kibbutz or commune, in which the collective society could own a piece.

In an extensive-ranging interview with Meilich, he stated that the mission would not have been as successful if he ran it like other tech CEOs rule their corporations as fiefdoms. He contends that via democratizing the website, people would be more extraordinary recommended to take part, construct and create without fear that they’ll be bombarded by classified ads, anxiety over their security, or the whims of executives. Meilich believes that in times like these, we “can’t be evil” is a much better approach than “don’t be evil.”
